All people are created equal, as uninformed infants.  Those who don’t apply themselves are likely to remain uninformed.  They may resist opinions from "elites" who have become educated.  For example, they don't want to believe uncomfortable truths about global warming.  "We're all equal!  My ignorance is worth just as much as your knowledge!"
