In Memory

Clinton Thatch

Clinton Thatch of Norfolk, Virginia, majored in voice at Oberlin’s Conservatory of Music and added a master’s degree from the University of Illinois.  Returning to the Tidewater area, he directed a Lutheran church choir.  Clinton died on June 12, 2010, survived by two sons and two daughters.

“Although I didn't know Clinton well, we compared notes as voice students of Professor Howard Hatton.  I remember Clinton's theory that all singers had crooked bottom teeth, which made perfect sense to me!  I was in the College, and he was in the Conservatory, and I was glad to read he went on to receive a graduate degree from the University of Illinois (surely in music) and serve as choir director at Apostles Lutheran Church in Chesapeake, Virginia.  I remember him as kind, full of good humor, and encouraging to this College student venturing into the intimidating world of the Conservatory.  Rest in Peace.”  (Submitted by Harriet Craig McIntyre)
