In Memory

Kathryn Woodle (Sweeney)

Kathryn Woodle (Sweeney) passed away on August 29, 2014, after a short illness. Kathy is survived by her husband Paul, daughter Alexandra Goode, son-in-law Troy Goode, grandson Parker Goode and granddaughter Audrey Goode.

Growing up in Oklahoma, Kathy was a dedicated farm woman who celebrated rural living. “She was clever, always curious about how things worked and interested in everything. Her formative years on the farm, specifically playing at the creek and caring for animals, developed a special interest in biology and respect of nature.” Majoring in biology at Oberlin, where she also mastered the flute and piano, she went on to research the neuroanatomy of the auditory system at Harvard University and the University of Connecticut.

I got to know Kathy while we were both working at Harvard. One day we passed each other in Harvard Square, paused, turned back and said: "Don't I know you from Oberlin?" We had lunch several times and finally lost track of each other. Kathy was a smart, dedicated environmentalist with a farmer's insight into nature's balance. (Submitted by Terry Sweetser)
