In Memory

Toni Trent (Parker)

Children’s author Toni Trent Parker passed away on September 15, 2005. Toni was an amazing storyteller, thinker, and organizer. She lit up any room she entered and was a great friend to many of us. Toni was an amazing woman who later changed the landscape of children's publishing by bringing books with strong black children into print. Toni wrote what became my daughter's favorite, "Sienna's Scrapbook," which shares a young African-American girl and her family visiting black cultural and historical sites in the United States.  (Submitted by Terry Sweetser)

Toni was my first close friend to pass away and her loss brought deep, deep sadness. She was "gone too soon," but accomplished much in her time on this earth. -- Michele Cisco Titi
