In Memory

Cynthia Miller (Lawrence)

Cynthia Miller (Lawrence), an Art History major, was the freshman roomate of Eve Goldberg (Tal) at Talcott.

Cynthia died on July 26, 2006, after a long, heroic struggle against cancer. She endured her health problems with quiet fortitude and refused to allow the disease to limit her activities.

Dr. Lawrence’s book Flemish Baroque Commemorative Monuments 1566-1700 established her as a leading authority on Flemish sculpture of the period.  She was perhaps best known for her study on the genesis of Rubens’s Raising of the Cross and was a professor in the Department of Art History at Temple University until her retirement in 2004.

Cynthia and her husband, David, often traveled to favorite cities in the Netherlands as well as new locales.  She was an impressive scholar, a great colleague, and dear friend; she will be much missed on all counts.
