In Memory

Eric Fredin

Eric Fredin, from Duluth, Minnesota, earned a degree in English at Oberlin and a doctorate in mass communications from the University of Michigan.  In 1985 he joined the faculty at Ohio State University, where he became known as “one of the brightest and most well-liked scholars in the School of Journalism and Communication.”  But he collapsed at work in July of 2002.  It was cancer, and he died three weeks later at the age of 54.

"Eric was an extraordinarily bright person. He was a deep thinker, capable of profound insights. Eric was very knowledgeable about music, poetry, and psychology. He was probably the most perceptive and aware person I have ever known, extremely sensitive to the feelings and perspectives of others. Freshman year, he studied cello, philosophy, and Chinese language. His students at Ohio State would have been very fortunate to have him as their professor. His death at a relatively young age is a loss to the world he left behind.”  (Submitted by Kathleen Mooney Parrish)
