In Memory

Andrew Humes

Andrew Humes

Raymond Zepp writes, "I was Andy's roommate for 3 years. I visited him once in Florida. He was always a kind, straight-shooting person."  He's survived by his brothers Greg and Douglas.

Michael Lubas wrote in the online guest book, "Though you were modest in stature Andy, you were tall as a faithful friend and man of integrity. Could never understand how you maneuvered the biggest, ugliest and smelliest old motorcycle around campus. But if anyone could, after getting the ornery beast started, it would be Andy Humes, in the saddle with that big ol' toothy smile besides. You were and always will be a gem among those whose lives were bettered by knowing you. Peace, Andy."

I lived on the same floor in Barrows Hall as Andy during  freshman year.  He had an infectious laugh and was always a plesure to be around.  After Oberlin, we went our seaparate ways.  I talked to him once when he called me from Florida.  I was looking forward to seeing him at the upcoming reunion and was so sorry to learn of his passing.

Always with a laugh and full of smiles, Andy gave me a ride on the back of his Harley once. I only regret that I can't thank him for the memory—and for the enormous street cred he gave me with my daughter and her friends through the somewhat embellished retelling of it.

I also roomed on the same floor with Andy, and marveled at his piloting of the huge Harley around town--and once saw him in Nyack NY after our college time.  I'd hoped to catch up at the reunion, and am sad at his loss from the community!
